1917–1919: Soviet, Govorov, and the Civil War

The Revolution in Yurga wasn’t stormy, but it was real.

In 1917, the Council of Workers’ and Soldiers’ Deputies was established. Chairman — Alexey Grigoryevich Govorov, a carpenter from the railway.

The Soviet managed to accomplish much: 8-hour workday, school, medical clinic, help for the poor, Red Guard detachment.

But in 1918, the White Czechs crushed the Soviet. Govorov went through underground work, arrests, “death trains,” rescue by partisans… His family later survived repressions and war. A personal fate — like a mirror of the country.
